One of the largest banking groups in Europe moves beyond unconscious bias training to engage senior leaders in real change.

BNP Paribas has close to 190,000 employees in 65 countries. The Group has made strong commitments not only to its employees and clients, but also to society, to promote equal opportunities, gender equality and social cohesion. Since 2004, BNP Paribas has proactively pursued professional equality.

BNP Paribas partnered with Belong Consultancy to advance their diversity, equity, and inclusion from the top. Belong Consultancy worked closely with the Group to pinpoint specific challenges they faced around implementing its DEI aspirations. Many leaders were uncertain how to create an environment that is respectful of everyone and how to develop and unlock the full potential of diverse talent. To engage leadership, foster accountability and support an inclusive working environment, we delivered a series of Leading for the Future workshops to the Group’s board members. We presented the data and empirical research around why leading inclusively is a necessity for the future working environment.

The result? Belong Consultancy trained leaders in each constituent subsidiary in how to lead in a way that values difference, responding to geographical and cultural nuances in the myriad businesses from across the world. We provided real-world toolkits and solutions that leaders incorporated into their daily and weekly routines.

The leadership development training together with the leadership inclusion coaching helped to transform the way they think about DEI issues and how they show up and lead every day at work. This matters because everyday leaders get to decide how all employees will be treated, their actions and attitudes shape culture and drive performance.

Following the training, their 2021 employee survey produced highly positive results on various dimensions of diversity. BNP Paribas continues to proactively embrace diversity and engage in continuous learning to move forward in the right direction.
